I would like to begin with saying that you should ask your future teacher for advice on buying any tubas, both present and future.
Following that I would suggest that you might want to consider a 4/4 or 5/4 size tuba. These will be a lot more versatile than a brute like the York. (and you just might like the smaller horns a lot better.(even the thought is blasphemy :))
Also unless you are extremely wealthy you might not like the idea of spending $15K on a tuba and then finding out that you have to buy another tuba so that you can play in something other than the symphony.
Finally, I myself think that huge horns are highly overrated. They are very limited and are way too pricey for a college student. (myself included) For most tuba players the York-o-phones are nothing more than a dream or a luxury.
