WARNING: The following comments come from an amateur!

When the subject is cars, you will probably hear your friends talk a lot about Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, etc. Since everyone talks about THOSE cars, why is it that the Accord, Maxima and Taurus are the biggest sellers, when NO ONE talks about them? Because they are made for 'general use' (comfort, capacity, economy, reliability) rather than a specific use (fast). They are not as interesting, but much more versatile and useful.

Although I have never played a 6/4 ANYTHING, it is nonetheless my understanding that it is a 'specific use' horn (large orchestral setting). What will you play in quintets? Wind ensemble? Solos, for crying out loud!?!

That is, I think, why so many tuba players buy a 4/4 Miraphone, throw it into the back of Mom & Dad's old Accord, and head off for college.

Good luck!
