On laquer, I use Old English Lemon furniture polish(on silver, I like 3M Tarnisheild, FWIW). The repair guru, Emilio, at Rayburn in Boston recommended it to me years ago. I've had great luck with it for cleaning and protecting.

The cloth I use is a Selvyt brand cloth (on both silver and laquer). There are other brands, but this is what is advertised as a "micro fiber" cloth. It is really soft and machine washes very well. I have several and keep one with each horn. These are used by jewelers and are designed not to scratch. They're available at most of the major music discounters, I bought mine at Flute World (my wifes a flute player).
