Anyway, a double tuba is built with the same concept that a french horn is built with. The horn is normally in BBb but if you put a valve down it turns into an F tuba (assuming it's an F/BBb combination, I guess any two keys would work). I'm not sure how effective it is, though, I've never played one. I've heard that they have questionable intonation and they are extremely heavy.
