If you are still in contact with Tommy, it seems that L.A. would have much more to offer as far as competitions and freelance jobs. Jim Self, of course, and Norm Pearson are two other major contacts in L.A.. It may be worth your time taking the 2 1/2 hour drive up there. I know Disney still holds the college all-star summer band and orchestra auditions in L.A. I think at UCLA. Just something to think about in a year or two.
By the way, who is conducting the S.D. Youth Orchestra now? Just curious.
