No Dan, Gerald has it right. You have to understand that pitch change went in several directions at different times. I'm not positive but I think it started at about 438 or something, then went up to 444 and then finally settled at 440. Instruments during this 444 to 440 switch are the ones that usually had the dual tuning slides or 2 tuning slides. The tuning slides are sometimes labeled HP or LP for high pitch or low pitch. Whenever you here the term "low pitch" they are referring to the modern pitch A=440.
