Done so on trombones.
Red brass does give a lower band of emphasised frequencies, the so called formants. Giving a warmer sound for low to upper medium dynamics.
Maybe red brass does give a slightly diminished control in the dynamic level where the tone "breaks up".
The combination of heavy gauge tube walls and red brass could tend towards a somewhat slower response.
