My opinion: this model is an excellent tuba that can be used in an orchestra if handled correctly. The Bell model was one of the "standards" of many teaching studios when I was an undergraduate (1970's) and I liked every Bell model that I have tried (solid sound, excellent intonation, very easy response, excellent workmanship). So, give it a test-drive and see if this is what you want. Also, this is the model that Sam Palafian used for years and according to Connie Weldon (Sam's and my teacher) he will still sometimes use his Bell model.

good luck,
