I get closet-phobia in a practice room, but tolerate the really well-built "dead" sounding ones better than the cheapo plain sheet rock / loose, rattly cover on the humming florescent light fixture ones.

Psychologically, I hate the ones with the small vertical door window for people ( bill collectors? groupies? axe murderers? ) to peek in at me.

My own living room with some furniture to soak up some of the sound is the most comfortable place for me to practice (beer is close, too). Tuba players who like to practice should try to rent or own an old house (10 foot ceilings), if possible.

When in college, I often would practice super late at night in the bandroom after a nap. Bandrooms are pretty good practice rooms, because they are typically sort of dead, but the walls and ceiling aren't right next to the bell of the tuba, and don't screw up the sound like a little "box" practice room does.
