Floyd Cooley still teaches at San Fran. Cons., too, I think, and Don Harry (Buffalo Phil. player) has a really good thing going at Eastman, plus at Eastman, the faculty does a good job of rotating students in and out of the most desirable ensemble spots, so everyone gets a decent shot. Another option in Rochester, NY is some "side" lessons with the new R.P.O. tubist, who is excellent. Mr. Lamb, an Eastman senior who posts regularly, can tell you more about Eastman, including the audition process, realistic possibility of acceptance and scholarship $$$$$ - and how much, etc. A limited number of students at Eastman receive "Howard Hanson Scholarship"s for various amounts, usually based on merit. The receipt of a Performer's Certificate (I believe it is called) from Eastman (only awarded at the discretion of the faculty to certain outstanding students) is a widely-recognized notable achievement.
