Out of the few rather amazing "regional" orchestras
my vote for under-rateds goes to the San Jose Symphony,
major metropolitan area, fantastic players, if they were
only full-time and had better management and less of that
famous "pander-to-the-know-nothing-public" programming
then more folks outside of the San Francisco Bay Area
would hear of them. I do not understand how with the highest
millionaire-per capita ratio in the world San Jose & Silicon Valley
cannot get their act together and fund these guys full-time.
B.T.W. I heard their tuba player Tony Clements a few weeks ago play a recital
of 6 or 7 works commissioned by the San Jose Chamber Orchestra
for him to perform with them. AWESOME...and kinda fun too!
