Bashing is counterproductive in my opinion. I am not a fan of Yamaha brass instruments, but I believe them to be very good instruments. Many highly successful and very capable musicians enjoy playing them.
I have seen vicious commentary of things such as oboes, flutes, Yamahas, and others. Frankly, some of the most beautiful phrasing I have ever heard came from two particular oboists. Roger Bobo is a pillar of musicianship and I really dig Jim Self's sense of phrasing. Both prefer Yamahas as their primary axes.
Some of the bashing reminds me of how easy it was, hopefully it is deminishing, to try to elevate one's own stature by searching for faults in others.
Sure, I prefer the sounds of other instruments over those of Yamahas, but I still greatly enjoy the product of many individuals who perform on them.
Diversity works.
