Sorry to correct you, but I am fairly certain that he brought THE good York.

The York tubas I have played ARE lighter than others. Handmade horns in general are lighter. My Meinl Weston 2000 is very light for its size also.

A guy in my section had an opportunity to toot a couple of notes on THE York during the conference and was simply astounded, like everyone else I know who have played on it. I have played on other Yorks, never THE York, and they have all had a similiar characteristic of being very very vibrant and live. Those horns just ring and ring and ring. The ones I have played on are also very flexible in both sound and pitch. Someone with a good ear and a good buzz benefits greatly from this flexibility.
