No argument from me in principle. I just bought a new F tuba, and it has rotary valves and a highly characteristic sound that is very different from my Yamaha. I bought it because I wanted that sound for an application where the Yamaha has proved unsuitable.

And, of course, American baritones and English baritones are different instruments, though I think you were comparing American baritones and English euphoniums. My point was that we get wrapped up in the terms, and we should be discussing the musical differences. These differences are much smaller than we supposed in words on Tubenet, and that was the point of my story. That doesn't mean there are no differences, or that those differences aren't important to us.
