Most of the Getzen/Edwards trombones that I've auditioned were so stuffy that I laughed out loud when trying out the Thayer valves on them.
I've tried instruments with wide-open Rotax rotors (similar to Greenhoe, but invented prior to Greenhoe) and other valves which attempt to thwart resistance. I've found that ease of playing in various ranges is 99.999% reliant on the instrument and perhaps the other 1/1000th of a percent reliant on whatever type of mechanical length-change devices are utilized.
