Considering that all his students have left-facing bells (including the oval euphoniums), that seems like it would be hard to do.

The TubaMeisters shared a recital at a college back in 1992 when I was in the group. We played long-hair music for the first half of our part (arrangements of Fanfare from La Peri, Till Eulenspiegel, etc.), and then switched to our standard polka set. For the first part we were reading off stands, in a V shape. We put the higher parts in the front and the lower parts in the back. But there was a palpable improvement in our connection to the audience when we started playing polkas, and walked away from the stands, to line up across the front edge of the stage like a rock band.

Maybe not for contest judges, but for audiences of real people, eye contact trumps projection and balance.
