You might want to try one of the Canadian Brass Beginner/Easy Solo books for Trombone. They have an accompaniment CD and a great recording of Gene Watts! It helped my students alot and they seem to progress nicely. It also gets them interested in brass chamber music, which is always a plus.

I have included a link to the Canadian Brass webpage, but you can order them from your local music store, if they don't have them already. They are published by Hal Leonard.
