I’m a high school tubist trying out for the Texas All-State Band on a CC tuba, and I have an excerpt from the band transcription of Roman Festivals in which there is a fairly rapid pattern that has an interval of a third from a pedal E natural to a pedal C. Whenever I play this interval, my embouchure shifts for the open pedal note, and I lose stability.
I’ve been reading the archived posts about using one embouchure for all registers, and I found that I can play the pedal register with the same embouchure as the mid and upper registers. However, it is very inconsistent and produces a poor sound.
My question is: How long will it probably take me to fully adjust my embouchure with a good amount of practice?
I have about three weeks before the tryouts. Maybe I should wait until after everything is over.
