Gotta agree with The Pride. 1986 Sudler Trophy Winner. (http://bands.ou.edu/) The director of bands is Dr. William Wakefield, and he is hands down one of the finest musical minds I have ever known. It's an excellent program.

OU has a great Honors Program. If you are a National Merit Scholar, you will pay little, if anything to attend OU. (http://www.go2.ou.edu/national_scholars.htm). The Honors College has access to its own dorm as well, so you are surrounded by students that want to do as well as you.

Since you are interested in marching band, also realize that you will be guaranteed a bowl trip every season. Next year looks very good for a New Years in Miami. The tradition of an OU football game is rivaled by few universities. If you can get to visit Norman on a home game weekend to audition for a scholarship and attend a game, you'll see what I mean. And the rush that comes when you sprint out of the stadium tunnels in front of (now) 84K screaming fans is something I will never forget. Not to mention the annual trip to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the Red River Shootout vs. Texas, one of the most intense, storied rivalries in all of college football. There are some great pics at http://bands.ou.edu/photos/

The rest of the scool of music also has outstanding ensembles (http://music.ou.edu/), in addition to a Musical Theatre Department that utilizes School of Music musicians for their productions. So it is also feasable to get the experience of 2-4 major Musical Theatre pit experiences every year.

Obviously, I am biased. But I will never hesitate to tell someone that they don't want to miss out on the Pride of Oklahoma and OU's rich, deep tradition.
