I've used lotsa mpcs on mine (itsa late 70's/early 80's I think) -- and I keep going back to the same thing...

I use a good ol Conn Helleberg 7B most of the time, but if I really need to honk something huge or something where I have to be very very quiet on the low end, I pop in the standard Conn Helleberg.

I've tried lotsa other stuff over the years: Rose Model Orch, C-4, PT-88, PT-10 (fishbowl -- too big), various Bach paperweights, Conn 2, Schilke Hberg 1 & 2... and I always end up back at the good old Conn Hellebergs -- simple and classic -- just like the 186.
(and yes you can get a huge round sound) When I get the urge to try different mouthpieces, it usually ends up that I am trying to compensate for some inefficiency in my approach. It is best when I keep the equipment variables to a minimum.

One thing though that really helps open up the low register -- get rid of the lacquer!!!

(Lets hear it for ugly old 186's!)

peace
