I think you have to define what you mean by best. From my vantage point, most of the schools mentioned are located in places I wouldn't want to live, or don't offer the quality and breadth of education I would set as my first priority. Then again, I
never wanted to be a military bandsman, and music for me was and is an avocation and something I love for its own sake, not as a profession. So I got to play euphonium in three very fine college wind ensembles(MIT, Berkeley and Stanford) under three wonderful conductors (John Corley, Bob Briggs and Arthur Barnes), made a lot of friends and cannot think how it could have been any better.
