As an engineer, I think the definition below re: science, engineering, art is reasonably accurate. But, unless you are designing the tuba, you aren't the engineer in this multi-step process that yields music. Unless you are experimenting with the physics of acoustics, you aren't the scientist in the process.

As one who is using the results of this type of work done by the scientist, the engineer and the craftsman (who together create the equipment you are using), I would suggest you are acting as a skilled technician, using a piece of equipment that requires skill and training to accomplish some task. Because the task you accomplish is to create music, you are, therefore, also an artist.
