Gold usually solves any allergic problems. Doug Elliott not only has gold rims available but also has lexan. The gold will make the mouthpiece "seem" bigger and has a "slippery-er" feel and the lexan will, according to Doug, make the mouthpiece seem smaller. All when compared to standard silver plating as a baseline. Call Doug and ask for advice, he will help and in my opinion, his stuff is well worth the money (speaking from a trombone perspective).

Also, this is winter, and this time of year will contribute to dry and irritated lips. Keeping a supply of good lip "balm" on hand helps. My favorite is good old Carmex.
