"All Around" F

I know many talk about using an Eefer if they could have "one and only one" horn, but does anyone use their F as such? I've read in the archives that the YFB-822 is applicable to such a situation, but it has a sound that I myself cannot stand (no "character", in my opinion). Besides, traditional F tubas have more of the quality I like--a French horn plus testosterone. Are there any other horns that can be classified as such (F tubas for all-around, that is)? I've read that the Miraphone 181 has a rather stellar low end and a "dreamy" sound that actually sounds like an F--could it be used in such a place? I'm interested in anyone's feedback/comments towards this.

Regards,

Matt Goosen
