Yeah, I remember. There's just something about the Miraphone ring that kept me from using the blasted thing on any other horns.
If you want to see a monster ring, check out the Willson tubas--a thick ring attached with what must be a 5mm steel allen-head bolt to a 1/4" thick brass plate. About a month ago, one of the trombone guys in the brass band pointed at my 3400 and said "What is that?" My response, of course, was "It's a Willson Eb tuba." "No--what is that?" pointing to the thumbring.
"It's where I hook the winch" says I, not batting an eyelash.
