That was a real treat to see my dear old friend Gary McCurdy from Washington, Iowa playing the helicon and tambourine. He plays some real sweet jazz on that old horn. For awhile he and his wife ran a restaurant. After they got the food cooking, he would stroll and play for the diners during the dinner hour. Before that he was the director of the local high school band. He has done lots of composing and arranging for tuba and euphonium ensemble. He was one of the people who got the Bill Bell memorial tuba day in Perry, Iowa going and kept it going. For a number of years he arranged and provided most of the music and directed the large tuba/euph ensemble at that event and at least one year he was the guest clinician/soloist.
