We have played this opera in Omaha in recent years. There is a quite prominent tuba/ophicleide soli section during a baritone aria in the first act, if my memory serves me correct. It is for two ophicleides in unison. I asked our bass trombonist to double it which was well received by the conductor, Hal France. It would have been nice to have him play it on euphonium, but the change back to trombone was problematic in our relatively tight quarters in the pit, and the opera would not want to pay doubling. that is the only place in the opera that the part has major prominence. Good luck.
