For me, it was taking about a third of the time I had been playing horns and putting it into singing in a small ensemble (with quite a bit of a cappella work). I had to listen for pitch, timbre, and articulation more than I ever had before. My breathing and phrasing also improved. I found that I was much more sensitive to all these things as a player after doing them as a singer.

Mind you, the main improvement was in my trombone playing, not my tuba playing, but I did see some improvement in the tuba playing as well.
