Pics: mostly Besson (two comp F's)

In a couple of recent threads there has been an interest in Besson F tubas.

The one illustrated above here is the circa 40 years old compensating variety. This specimen shown has been reworked to play in Eb. (This picture has been loaned from a third party site, so it can not be found in my collection of illustrations).

Within the last few years Besson has started and then abandoned a project with a larger 985 compensating F tuba in the visual style of the 983. A number of prototypes were offered for sale a year or so ago. I kept the photo and the specs. They can be found at

It is interesting, that Besson already around 1935 made at least one prototype of a 4 front action pistons compensating euph. 3 pics can be found at

Another Besson speciality is a 1909 enharmonic euph with separate sets of slides for the Bb and F sides. A true double euph. Two pics to be seen at

Cornet solos of the golden age a century ago sometimes came for cornet in A. A solution from Besson can be seen at
