I am only familar with the Gregson as a solo with brass band or wind ensemble so I must assume you are auditioning for a wind band or some sort. I know both works and like them both. As others have mentioned, the Broughton is more 20th century. I think it sounds more difficult/impressive than the Gregson but I like them both. Which do you like better? Which one sounds better when you play it? Those would be two of the more deciding factors if it were me. Having played the Gregson, I would choose the Broughton because it is newer to me and I like the accompaniment better than the Gregson. The Gregson is fun to play though and has it's own unique challenges. As for the 2nd movement. They are both very nice. Check out the Stockholm Wind Symphony recording of the Gregson if you haven't heard it already. After hearing it I decided I like the wind ensemble arrangement much better than the brass band arrangement.

My 2 cents for what it is worth,

Mikey Mike
