Some years ago, while a grad student at Emporia State and marching with the band(hard to believe a grad student would do such a thing, but they paid me), I had a similar experience with a fiberglass sousaphone. They kept the sousas on the 3rd floor of the music building with the windows to the building open. Apparently a bird had flown into the sousa and couldn't figure it's way out. After a week or so of wondering what made breathing so "uncomfotable, I found it. In this case, it hadn't really blocked the passage. At least, I hadn't noticed. Remember, it was a fiberglass instrument, so it wasn't exactly a great playing horn to begin with.

Of course, we all know that playing tubas and sousaphones is not really for the birds.
