I haven't tried the 2XL, but the general dimensions are the same as the 2L as far as I can remember. I think the outer shape of the mouthpiece has been modified and the rim is a little rounder to make the mouthpiece more comfortable in protracted playing sessions.
I think Steve Sykes was refering to the fact that the Wick range was redesigned recently, the "new 2L" is the redesigned 2L and is a heavier model with a new external profile. I use the new 2L with a Besson 981 Eb and I certainly feel it is an improvement over the original 2L.
