If memory serves, an oxy-acetylene flame burns at about 5700F; I think oxy-MAPP is somewhere around 5400F. Air-propane is about 1300F; air-acetylene is about 1700F; and air-MAPP is about 1600F (your mileage may vary). I can use air-MAPP to silver-solder cracks on the thin metal of a silver-plated bell without damaging the plating; I'd never try that with oxy-acetylene. Maybe you've got a light enough touch to avoid burning the silver with oxy-acetylene, but I'd never try it myself.

Why not use soft solder to join your valve sections? At least you can buff any solder stains off of the silver. If you use some silver-plated braces and a short silver-plated sleeve, you'll probably come up with something that looks pretty decent.
