One of the community bands I play with is going to use a flatbed trailer for a parade this year: many of the players who've been in the band for 40-50 years want to play in our community's Memorial Day parade, but physically aren't up to the 2+ mile march anymore. Rather than see them on the sidelines while the younger players march, our sponsoring volunteer fire department's arranging the truck. Personally, with surgery on one knee last year and on the other today, I'm grateful, so don't knock it if you haven't tried it!
