Not until just now. He comes to exactly the same conclusion that Ray and I came to, and I seem to recall once before describing why they might work pretty similarly to how he does.

When we realize that musical instruments are elastic systems, and that charactistic sound (even for tuba) is not based on the fundamental but rather on the high harmonics, then it makes more sense.

Many times, I feel that studies of trumpets don't translate well to tuba, because the characteristic sound of trumpets requires a different mix of overtones, and therefore treatments that affect overtones may be good for one and bad for the other. In this case, we are describing the effect the same way, but drawing various conclusions as to the value of those effects. This seems to me a more sensible approach.
