Ricks comments pertain to the written words and lyrics. The circle P copyright is for the sound recording version made by Elton John. Elton John does not need permission from Bob Dylan to record a song written by Dylan. Neil Diamond does not need permission from Dylan to record the same song. If you look at the label on any music CD, LP, cassette, or 8 track made by a legitimate record company after 02/15/1972 you should see the circle P copyright sign that is the notice that the sounds are copyrighted. There is a difference between the circle C for the written music copyright notice and the circle P for the sounds copyright notice.
