The stem length means really next to nothing. It might affect it a little. The real problem is the backbore. For instance i play a conn 5j. Well i have been using a bach 12 on it until recently. I obtained a Conn Helleberg that has a much more open backbore and the difference is tremendous it is like a new horn. The 24AW is a great sousaphone moutpiece. Joe Sellmansberger will sell you a Schilke 69C4 with a slightly enlarged backbore which would make a great sousaphone mouthpiece. Maybe someone can open the backbore for you also.
