My first horn was a huge Besson 3 valve BBb. This horn was the reason I play tuba. I joined the school band in grade 7 thinking I was going to play (I'm ashamed to admit this) trombone. However,there are two reasons why I picked up the tuba. 1) we were short a tuba player and had an abundance of trombones and 2) at that time I was already 5'10" (and still am) and was the only student bib enough to hold it up and be able to play. I have no recollection of how the horn played but I do remember it was a pain in the butt to get it to and from school so my dad built a cart for it and we alternated between the cart and a sled during the winter months.
