The Bach Omega trumpet is a horribly over-priced rip-off, because (since they're not advertised in discount catalogs nor on the internet) local-yocal music stores try to sell them for $1500+. Since one can buy a silver standard Strad. new for only about $1400(discount price - ' any takers?), that Omega "list" price is kinda stupid.
HOWEVER, the Omega is actually just about as good as a Strad. In fact, I would say that an Omega (except for the fact that the bell is manufactured as a 2-piece [flair brazed on to the rest of the bell]) is extremely similar in response and playing characteristics to a "heavy wall" Strad. (extra charge for this model Strad., actually) with a standard #37 bell taper and a standard #25 mouthpipe taper.
Summary: Your buddy sorta already HAS a "Strad."
