Matt advised me, in a similar situation (my RM-10 has the type of mouthpipe you describe), to leave it alone. He said it might be worthwhile to try it should the current leadpipe need to be replaced but he advised me to leave it alone until such time. Intuitively, I think it would be hard to predict the effect of such a device on a setup that didn't have a "gap" in the first place. Since American style (don't you just love those pet peeves?) leadpipes do have a gap, you can manipulate it and, thus, the device is available. I'm not advanced enough to accurately predict how adding a gap would affect a tuba that currently has none, let alone what advantages/disadvantages manipulating the gap would manifest. Perhaps Matt can address this issue.
