I would guess, and I have some knowledge although no proof, that company's up until recently were selling to a local market. Where would you sell a horn in Wien with a big bell or a small belled horn in Chicago. Orchestras from different parts of the world have unique sounds unto themselves, and it's only in the last few years that we as players can find out what tubas sell and or are played in other parts of the world with the click of a button. I read things on this board that are truths here, but may be thought of as folly in another part of the world, and the thing is, everybody is right.
