I've got a junk pile of several sousas and tubas. The most experimenting I've done is just learning how to do my own valve rebuilding and adding a tuning slide to the leadpipe of my home made helicon. One of these days, I intend to build a Bb cimbasso from an old Eb Holton valve section and a bunch of scrap tubing and bends. So far, I have not worked up the nerve to cut any of my playable horns. It's just a lot of fun to tinker. I used to spend a lot of time building custom automobiles and street machines. I find messing with tubas a refreshing change. They're not nearly so oily and messy and don't take up as much space.
