Akins said he owned a patent. He did not talk about a patent application.
He did not exactly say he had a U.S. patent... also, some patents are written in obfuscating style, so they may be hard to search for. There is certainly some room for doubt...
... which can all be dispelled by Akins disclosing the Patent Number!!
