The point is nothng happens to the bell of a tuba while while the horn is resting on it. The weight of the tuba is not enough, unless the bell is very thin or has been damaged multiple times in the past, to deform the bell under a static load. Most tubas are somewhat unstable resting on their bells, which can lead to the obvious damage from being knocked over, or if it is put down quickly damage can occur form the act of placing it on it's bell. Once on the bell, no further damage occurs without some further action.

I try not to rest my tubas on their bells due to the danger of collateral damage, not because of any affect of resting on the bell. If resting a tuba on its bell caused damage why would every major tuba shop store their tubas resting on the bells? Would they really jeopardize millions of dollars of inventory?
