Though I understand and partially agree with your sentiments, Ken Burns had the seemingly-impossible task of making a Documentary Series about Jazz that would appeal to the GENERAL PUBLIC, not cater to professional musicians. At that, he did a marvelous job, and I applaud him. Was it perfect? No. Could it have been any better? Probably. Was it "bad"? Not at all! Of course we're all disappointed when we don't see anything that we can directly relate to, but compared to other efforts people have made to educate non-musicians about our musical heritage, Ken Burns did a great job. I, too, would have loved to see Howard Johnson included, or any of dozens of other Jazz musicians who *I* consider important, or relevant, for one reason or another.. but to the general public, they're just "more names".
