In general, I would stay away from the 3/4 size BBb tubas, but the Meinl-Weston 18 is an exception. It has quick response and a surprisingly big sound. It's definitely worth a try. You might also consider an Eb tuba. The learning curve on the fingerings won't be as bad as you think, and I think you'll be happy with the results.
