I have 3 mpc's that sound good on my '63 186. The Dillon M1C sounds nice, but emphasizes more of the overtones; the Mirafone TU-31(redesigned C6, Helleberg style) is darker and nice and full; Marc. H1(H is for Helleberg) opens up the horn, is nice and full but more focused(although a larger rim diameter). I'm using the H1 mostly, but the TU-31 sounds more like what you need. The C4 has never really worked for me as a "big-sounding" mpc. The Rose model is dark, but just sounds "dull" and unfocused to me. Ideally, you should go to a tuba store or conference and try a bunch of them. It's the only way to really know the choices for you.
