Previously when I played a 186 I used a Miraphone Rose Model Orchestra mouthpiece and was pretty happy with it. When I got my 188, I went to a PT-48 and thought it gave me more of the sound I wanted. As far as the fifth valve goes, I loved the two-step length and missed it greatly when I switched to my Hirshbrunner. The biggest reason was the top line Ab was just nails when I played it with the 5th valve alone! I was always very confident playing the Petrushka excerpt in auditions! Give it a try.
