Here is my approach, and my own experience. I have students change to CC almost cold turkey. But I have them play from some easy Arban exercises or horn etudes and have them play them as Bb transposition. So a C is open, E 1+2. They gradually learn the CC tuba fingerings in treble clef, then with thinking note names in bass clef with the CC tuba the change is swift, almost automatic. I played CC tuba for many years, but moved back to BBb on the Holton I got from Jake. That was pre-cutting days, and I would be nervous to have that done now. So I go back and forth but think trumpet like on CC and BBb tuba like on the the BBb.
