Many report that they are really in tune. But the 1922 prototype three-valve compensator that I found for my wife's uncle was not, although that horn has a lot of problems that could be contributing to poor intonation. Like, for example, the copper valves.
Going back to my Miraphone after playing that horn for a few days (this was pre-York Master) was like breathing clean air after two weeks in a coal mine.
